Safety

Wrestlers are always in constant battle. Whether it is on the mat or in the gym. Taking proper care of your wrestling shoes, head gear and singlets, as well as other work out clothes is essential to surviving the sport. With out proper protection and care it is easy to get hurt in anything you do. Headgear should fit snugly and with no cuts. The headgear are designed to not need tape however many wrestlers do add tape to their headgear. In section IV the rule on taping headgear has changed twice over the past year. It is now allowed to tape headgear as long as you can see the ear holes. Make sure your straps are not ripped or that your button is not broken. A broken headgear can equal coliflower ear! Wrestling shoes need to be taped as well so that laces do not come undone. You must have shoes that are not ripped or broken just like normal shoes. Wrestling shoes should only be worn on the mat or in a gymnasium unless your walking around school during a tournament. It is not a great idea to wear wrestling shoes while running on pavement or on a hard surface as they do not provide much protection to your feet.
